NASCAR Fan Etiquette

July 6th, 2007 | Rod | NASCAR Chat

NASCAR fans come from all walks of life with varying social norms and standards. That’s great because it shows the depth of the sport, with it being able to provide something for almost anybody.

With regards to NASCAR crashes, I think we all need to adhere to a minimum set of standards out of respect for the men and women who routinely put their lives at risk for our entertainment.

Here is my minimum list of etiquette:

1. Never cheer a NASCAR wreck when it happens. You just simply do not know if one of the drivers is losing his life at that particular moment. Chances are that everyone will be okay, but you just do not know. You wouldn’t cheer if your dad or brother were involved in that NASCAR crash.

2. Never, ever, throw objects on the track. It shouldn’t even be mentioned, but some fools never learn. If you see someone doing it, report it immediately.

3. Don’t glorify an accident where someone died. This is not only out of common human decency, it is out of respect for that person whom so many adored.

As to point # 1, rather come here to this site afterwards and relive the drama of the wreck. At the track you wouldn’t have seen much anyway. It happens so fast and is over in an instant.

If the crash is not already on this site, then submit your own crash report. Alternatively, contact me and let me know where I can get a video or pics.
